Thurnham WI enjoyed a varied programme of events in 2015 with an array of interesting speakers: from talks on Lakeland farmhouses to Life in a Convent in Cameroon. In August we heard 3 members talk about their own experiences: Life in Sweden, the Centenary Garden Party at Buckingham Palace, and Walking the Camino de Santiago. Quite a few members also took part in Lancashire Federation or national events throughout the year: the Annual Council Meeting in Southport, where one of the speakers was Dame Stella Rimmington, the Centenary AGM in the Royal Albert Hall ( in the presence of the Queen), the WI Fair in Harrogate, the Centenary Tea Party in Bilsbarrow, and a trip to Townley Hall and Queen St Mill. We entered 3 teams into the Lancashire Federation Quiz in January , with one winning the local heat and in March we were delighted to welcome Lancashire Chair Shirley Thornton who came to present Mary Benn with the Standfast Trophy for service to the community. A number of us went to The Dukes to watch the live-streaming of the Centenary AGM, and some members made up patchwork blocks for Project Linus UK. We enjoyed a very jolly evening at Springfield House Hotel in October and at our delayed Christmas Party on 5th January this year.
Come along and join us in 2016! We usually meet on the fourth Tuesday of the month at 7:30pm in Thurnham Institute.
